Matchday 3 Review and Matchday 4 Transfers

Matchday 3 Review and Matchday 4 Transfers

Matchday points: 63
Total points: 224

I managed to get through matchday 3 without any major disasters despite not scoring overly well. Luckily none of the big hitters that I don’t own did well either so regardless of some bad performances from a couple of players I largely maintained my position on the leaderboard. I feel in a fairly strong position as I’ve not used my goal bonus booster yet. I’m going to use that for the matchday ahead and feel like this could be a pivotal point in where my team ends up finishing from here. If the goal bonus goes well I could shoot up the leaderboard. If it doesn’t then I’m unlikely to have a really strong finish.

I’m not going to document each of my players from matchday 3 as it’s largely irrelevant now – we have unlimited transfers so it doesn’t matter how they performed. All that really matters is picking the most likely goalscorers for the week ahead.

I’m away for the weekend so I’m looking to lock my team in this evening provisionally. I will add that I may change this while I’m away but I will only post about this on the WhatsApp group as I won’t have access to update the blog. If you’re not in that group you can join here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IXTAFK828Bv67PCNwbzZAN

Matchday 4 Transfers

Here’s where I’m currently at with a brief explanation:

Verbruggen – not a bad option considering the side of the draw Netherlands are on.

Cucurella – has scored well, is cheap and I think it’s a good idea to have a Spain defender against Georgia.

Van Dijk – I’m only picking him as I’m playing the goal booster and he’s on penalties. Also a goal threat in the air.

Guehi – another cheap defender but England have been keeping clean sheets and are on the favourable side of the draw.

Musiala – looks a goal threat and has put in impressive performances so far.

Ruiz – I want a Spanish midfielder as they play Georgia. I did have Williams in but he’s not had a shot on target yet despite a better all round goalscoring record. As a result, I’ve decided to go for the slightly cheaper and more in form Ruiz.

Fernandes – he’s scored once already and has a good record in the past. Decent draw for Portugal as well.

B. Silva – as I’m not going for Ronaldo I thought another Portugal midfielder with a goal threat might be a good idea.

Mbappe – no real explanation needed.

Gakpo – has been scoring well so far and has a good fixture against Romania.

Morata – it’s the fact that Spain are playing Georgia that has made me pick Morata. I’m 50/50 on him and Kane at the moment but given England’s performances, I’m probably going to go for Morata.

Booster: Goal Bonus
Captain: Mbappe
Vice Captain: Morata

I’m reasonably happy with this team for the goal bonus booster. It would look slightly different if I wasn’t playing that booster. I am worried about not owning a few players, but getting them all in is difficult. This includes the likes of Kane, Ronaldo, and Williams. I’m also slightly concerned that most of the players are on the more difficult side of the draw but we do have an increased budget and 5 transfers to use after this round.

I’m still very undecided on Verbruggen/Morata compared to Dubravka/Kane. Other than that I don’t see the rest of my team changing before we are locked in on Saturday.
