Matchday 2 Review and Matchday 3 Transfers

Matchday points: 94
Total points: 161

Very much back on track after matchday 2. Most things went according to plan with good points from Faes, Mittelstadt, Fernandes, Gundogan, Musiala, Kane and Ronaldo/Lukaku (to a certain extent). Frustrating to see Lunin benched and the gamble and Gvardiol did not pay off in the slightest. Szoboszlai didn’t do well either but I wanted him for the during of the group stage not just the first two fixtures so I’m interested to see what he can do against Scotland tonight. I’ve used max captain and 12th man, but I still have the overpowered goal bonus booster to play. This puts me in a relatively good position despite a really bad first matchday. Not to dwell on that too much but the plan was clearly solid as my luck changed in matchday 2 – I now dread to think how well I’d be doing had I not had such bad luck across a number of players in the first round of fixtures. I’m sat at around 7,000th on the leaderboard, I think with only a handful more points I’d be well within the top 1,000.

Here’s my breakdown of each player:

Lunin – a disaster that he was on the bench. Keen to move on if I can.

Faes – job done with a clean sheet. He stays in with a fixture to play that Belgium still need to win.

Mittelstadt – another good result with a clean sheet and assist. I’m hoping he plays tonight but he is now on a yellow card so checking that starting line up will be important.

Gvardiol – waste of a transfer by trying to be too clever. Should have gone for someone like Guéhi who I could have kept for two games. Ideally, he comes out this matchday.

Fernandes – decent 10 points, expected a few more over the first two games and he might be rested now with Portugal through as group winners. May take out.

Szoboszlai – 2 points not great but very happy to keep for the Scotland game. Across the two fixtures I’m happy with his returns.

Gundogan – very happy with 13 points from Gundogan. Stays in if he starts tonight.

Musiala – instant returns – job done. Stays in if he starts tonight.

Lukaku – unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet. Stays in for me given Belgium still need a result in their last game.

Kane – disappointing England performance but happy with a goal from Kane. Stays in.

Ronaldo – I’m likely to remove Ronaldo. With Portugal through as group winners you would think that he would be rested at 39. Never a certainty but I think it’s worth the risk to take him out.

Transfers for Matchday 3

It’s going to have to be a last minute decision again on transfers, which I won’t publish on here. It will be in the WhatsApp group. However, I’m currently debating the best players to take out and bring in. I will also be hoping to see the Germany line up 15 minutes before we are locked out which could change everything. If all my German players start, I’m considering taking out three of:
Lunin
Gvardiol
Fernandes
Ronaldo

Can’t decide whether to take a hit on Lunin or to strengthen Gvardiol.

I’m looking to bring in anyone out of:

Any keeper that I can afford. Maybe Casteels
Hernandez or Kounde
De Bruyne
Gakpo
Mbappe
Fullkrug
