In this blog, I’ll examine France’s squad with an eye on their performance potential for Euro 2024. I will analyse the Dream Team top player picks for France and the predicted lineup, providing valuable insights for making informed decisions when selecting your own team for matchday 1.
Fixtures
Matchday 1: Austria
Matchday 2: Netherlands
Matchday 3: Poland
Predicted Line Up
There’s quite a few question marks next to players for the French team. Maignan might not be fit to start, there’s also debate around which centre backs start and who plays over Coeman, Dembele, Giroud, Thuram and Kolo Muani.
GK: Maignan – 4.5m
LB: T. Hernandez – 5m
CB: Upamecano – 4m
CB: Saliba – 4.5m
RB: Kounde – 4m
CDM: Rabiot – 3.5m
CDM: Tchouameni – 3.5m
LW: Mbappe – 7.5m
CAM: Griezmann – 6.5m
RW: Dembele – 4.5m
ST: Giroud – 4.5m
Top Player Picks
Mbappe (STR – 7.5m)
Mbappe can’t be overlooked, he will have high ownership and could potentially finish as the highest point scorer in the game. He is expensive but I’m struggling to think of a reason to leave him out.
Griezmann (MID – 6.5m)
Griezmann always tends to do well in big tournaments. His price significantly puts me off picking him though as someone like Fernandes who is 0.5m cheaper might be a better pick. I’d still expect Griezmann to do well though.
T. Hernandez (DEF – 5m)
Another solid choice but again very expensive. I almost certainly won’t start with him on this basis but he’s another who should do well in the tournament if France do go all the way.
Dembele (MID – 4.5m)
Could be a good pick if he’s a regular starter, there are big question marks against whether he starts ahead of Coman. If he does get off to a good start could be one to consider bringing in.
Giroud, Kolo Muani or Thuram (STR – 4.5m)
If one of these three looks likely to get the most minutes up front for France they could be a good pick. It’s another one I’ll wait and see on but they are slightly cheaper than some of the more premium strikers.
Samba (GK – 3m)
He’s not in my predicted starting line up as Maignan will start if he’s fit. However, he does appear to have an injury at the moment. If this keeps him out of the group stage, a 3m goalkeeper from one of the favourites to win the tournament is a bargain.
Summary
France are clearly one of the favourites to win the tournament, however, their group fixtures are a little awkward with a fixture against the Netherlands right in the middle. Either way it’s impossible to rule out picking Mbappe. Other than that I’m not sure I’ll start with another French player – unless Maignan is ruled out for the whole of the group stage. I’ll certainly be coming back to them as the tournament progresses though.
